Heartbreak for Graulus in Kester

Entering the final round of the Belgian Championship in second, seven points behind Brent Van Doninck, Damon Graulus’ day definitely didn’t end how he’d envisioned it. After a crash in qualifying left him with a metacarpal fracture the talented 21-year old had no other choice than tho withdraw from the event

Graulus was in fact topping the order when a slower rider cut his line. There was no way for the 24MX Lucas Oil Honda rider to avoid a crash. While Damon tried to push on it was immediately obvious that riding through the pain was no option. Graulus will consult with surgeon Dr. Claes tomorrow.

Damon Graulus: “It’s hard to put to words how I feel. Ahead of this race we worked really hard and I felt strong. I immediately liked the track and the most cruel thing is that I was not even able to fight for the title. With my three points bonus on Kevin Strijbos before Kester it was never going to be easy but now we will never know!”

Marc Boone (team principal): “This is really cruel to see Damon’s title challenge being cut short like that. He got injured through no fault of his own which makes it even harder to accept. No matter how much we prepare and in spite of all the attention to the detail there’s unfortunately no way to avoid something like this. Luckily the injury itself seems not so bad.”
