Lynch seeks to maintain advantage at Pembrey

Wigan racer Tony Lynch will seek to consolidate his advantage in the Supernational standings when the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery heads to Pembrey for the penultimate round of the year this weekend.
 
Westhoughton-based Tony makes the trip to South Wales holding a 21 point lead in the standings having taken victory in the previous two rounds of the campaign at Maasmechelen and Lydden Hill at the wheel of his Lucas Oil Team Geriatric Ford KA.
 
Tony goes into the weekend looking to maintain that impressive run of form with the ever-improving KA, with his team having put in the hours in recent weeks to ensure the car is at its best for the seventh meeting of the year.
 
Having started the season hoping to simply prove his competitiveness with the KA, Tony will now look to cement his position at the head of the pack as he looks to try and wrap up the championship crown.

With that in mind, he plans to very much play the long game during the weekend ahead.
 
“At the start of the year, we weren’t really thinking about the championship and simply wanted to get into a position where we could fight for wins,” he said. “However, our recent results have put us in a fantastic position and there is no hiding the fact that we are now right in the mix for the title.
 
“Although our recent wins have given us a good lead in the points, I’m well aware of how quickly things could change and it would only need a little bit of bad luck this weekend and the advantage could disappear.
 
“With that in mind, the focus this weekend is to try and make sure we do what we need to do to maintain our advantage in the points to put us in the best position possible for the final round.
 
“Of course I want to fight for victory and if we can make it three wins in the row then it would be fantastic, but at the same time, I’m not going to do anything stupid to put the lead we have at risk.
 
“The whole team has worked hard to put us in this position and it’s now down to me to get the job done in the final two rounds.”

Now known throughout the paddock by that name, Team Geriatric is regarded as one of the hardest-working and well presented teams in British Rallycross, as shown when the team was awarded the BRDA’s Best Presented Team in 2008 and was given the same accolade for the 2014 BTRDA season.
