LYNCH AIMS TO FIGHT BACK IN SCOTLAND

Westhoughton-based racer Tony Lynch heads to Scotland this weekend for the latest round of the Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship eager to bring a run of recent bad luck to an end.

Tony and his team - Lucas Oils Team Geriatric - make the trip north to Knockhill sitting third in the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship standings after incidents in the previous two rounds at Maasmechelen and Lydden Hill severely dented his title hopes.

Having been forced to retire from the Belgian final after being caught up in someone else´s accident at the start, Tony had hoped to bounce back last time out at Lydden Hill only to be turned into a spin at the start of the final by rival Richard Norman. That incident caused a puncture that left Tony stranded on the circuit before the race was red-flagged, with the restart then being carried out before Tony´s team had had time to replace the punctured tyre.

Classified last in the final as a result, Tony elected to appeal against the incidents on the opening lap - which came after similar contact with Norman in Belgium - meaning the result of the Lydden final hasn´t yet been confirmed.

Provisionally therefore, Tony goes into this weekend currently two points behind Adam Clark in the fight for second in the championship standings, with the decision to cancel the penultimate round of the year at Mallory Park next month having all but ended his hopes of catching runaway points leader Dave Bellerby.

"As it stands, I´m third in the championship going into this weekend," he said, "and with the current situation, my only goal is to go out there and win. I´m not sure yet what the outcome on my appeal against what happened at Lydden Hill will be but the incident there, and the fact that the round at Mallory Park has had to be cancelled, means my chances of catching Dave for the title are now slim.

"However, that doesn´t change my approach as we head to Scotland. My aim is to score the maximum points possible to make sure that, at the very least, I end the season in second place and victory in the final two rounds would be the perfect way to reward the boys in the team for their hard work and the sponsors who have backed us all year."
