Ten Out of Ten for the Lucas Oil Cannon Motorsports Team

Top Fuel Supertwin machine

Racing partnership prepares to compete in its tenth season

(1st April, 2021) –

The Leeds-based Lucas Oil Cannon Motorsports Team is to continue its ten-year racing partnership with US oil and additives manufacturer Lucas Oil. The motorcycle dragster racing team will run the Top Fuel Supertwin machine in a Covid-19 restricted race schedule of six events this season. The series culminates in the FIM/FIA European Finals (9-12th ) and the STP National Finals (25-26th) in September 2021.

Chris Hannam, manager of the Lucas Oil Cannon Motorsports Team, says the prospects for the new season look good following engine upgrades to the supercharged DOHC 4-valve OHC nitromethane fuelled engine over the winter, as well as some very strong performances by rider Neil Midgley and the team last year:

“We ran our best elapsed time to date, winning the ‘Not the European Finals’ event at Santa Pod Raceway, beating the present top fuel twin and UK top fuel bike champion along the way. The full 1/4-mile elapsed time was 6.39 seconds after a very strong world class 4.06 seconds at half-track.”

The engine runs on Lucas SAE 50 Plus High Zinc Racing Oil. Other lubricants used include Semi-Synthetic Assembly Lube and Lucas Racing Assembly Grease. Chis Hannam adds that continued support from Lucas Oil has helped the team’s race program immensely:

“Having great support from Lucas Oil means that we have the best oil products available. Last year we had no oil-related engine parts failures. We sincerely thank Dan Morgan and his UK team as well as Tom Bogner and the whole US team for their faith and support in these very testing times. We will do our very best to represent the brand worldwide.”

The 2021 Lucas Oil Cannon Motorsports Racing Team calendar includes meetings scheduled to take place at The Santa Pod Raceway UK and The NitrOlympx at Hockenheimring, Germany (travel permitting). The events announced to date are:
